Desertcats lock in first round playoff bye

The Southwest Desertcats go 2-0 this weekend with wins against the Tucson Buckets in overtime and the South Phoenix Knights. This brings the Desertcats to a record of 11-0 in their ABA debut and 14-0 overall. With big play coming from #23 Bryan Rivera, #4 Derius Hegwood (El Paso native) and #11 Jeffrey Long (El Paso native) the Cats lock in a first-round playoff bye. There has been no professional basketball in El Paso since the 1970's. This year the Desertcats not only bring professional basketball back to the Sun City but they are making a statement while doing it. Power-Ranked number three in the Nation within the ABA, as of March 1st, 2021 the Southwest Desertcats are shocking the basketball community.

With a roster comprised of mostly El Paso locals, the Desertcats- under Coach Jesus Aragon-despite being undersized and a new franchise with minimal experience-utilize their speed, scrappy play, and tenacity to earn respect throughout the league. Watch the Desertcats in their last game at home against the Southwest Desert Storm, Tuesday, March 9th at 7pm as they look to finish their regular season undefeated.
